Orient Bay is 25 minutes from SXM airport on the French side's east coast. Cruise passengers from Philipsburg can taxi over in 30 minutes. Orient Bay South Reef

Shore Fishing

The southern end of Orient Bay features a reef that extends close to shore. Cast from the beach or wade out to reach the reef edge where jacks and barracuda ambush baitfish in the channels between coral heads.

Baie de l'Embouchure

Shore Fishing

The shallow embayment south of Orient Bay holds bonefish on the sandy flats during incoming tides. Wade carefully and sight-cast to tailing fish. Jacks and needlefish patrol the deeper edges of the flat.

Cul-de-Sac Beach

Shore Fishing

The protected beach at Cul-de-Sac near the Pinel Island ferry offers calm-water fishing. Reef fish hold around the rocky points, and blue runners school in the shallows. A relaxed spot for families.

Green Cay Channel

Orient Bay's east coast exposure means trade winds can make casting challenging in the afternoon — fish mornings for the calmest conditions. The reef flats offer sight-fishing opportunities in the clear water. Use 8-15 lb spinning gear. For bonefish on the flats, use the lightest tackle you can manage and approach quietly.

Regulations

French-side Saint-Martin follows French fishing regulations. No license is required for recreational shore fishing with rod and reel. The waters around Tintamarre Island are a marine reserve — observe all posted restrictions.

Incredible nearshore action off Orient Bay

Fished the nearshore reefs and rocky points just outside Orient Bay and the barracuda were patrolling aggressively. We caught three big cudas on topwater plugs and also picked up several nice yellowtail snapper and a horse-eye jack. The turquoise water and stunning beach backdrop made this an unforgettable trip.

Snorkeling and fishing combo was perfect

We did a half-day combo trip from Orient Bay — snorkeled the reefs first then dropped lines for snappers and groupers. The kids loved seeing the fish underwater before catching them on hook and line. We boated yellowtail snapper and a nice red hind. Perfect family-friendly outing on the French side.

Deep drop produced big snapper off Orient Bay

Ran offshore from Orient Bay to the deep reef structure and bottom fished in 300 feet of water. The silk snapper and queen snapper were biting on every drop. We filled the cooler with beautiful deep-water snappers and the captain filleted them right at the dock. Incredible eating fish.
