Speightstown is about 45 minutes from BGI airport on Barbados' northwest coast. Cruise passengers from Bridgetown can reach Speightstown by taxi in about 30 minutes. The town has a small fleet of charter boats — book 1-2 weeks ahead. The west coast's calm leeward waters make for comfortable trips, and the deep dropoff is close to shore.

The old jetty in Speightstown harbor provides easy fishing access with shaded areas. Mangrove snapper hold under the jetty structure, and jacks and barracuda patrol the harbor entrance. A relaxed spot for evening fishing.

Speightstown's calm west coast offers the most comfortable shore fishing in Barbados. The gentle surf allows light tackle (8-15 lb) and finesse presentations. Fish the reef edge that parallels the coast — it concentrates fish within casting distance. Evening fishing under the Speightstown jetty lights is productive for snapper. The local fishermen at Six Men's Bay are friendly and helpful.

Regulations

Barbados does not currently require a recreational fishing license for shore fishing. Respect working fishing areas at Six Men's Bay. Spearfishing is regulated. Check with the Barbados Fisheries Division for current regulations.

Deep drop swordfish trip of a lifetime

Made the run to the deep water off Barbados' west coast from Speightstown and set up for swordfish on the deep drop. Connected with a beautiful broadbill that weighed 185 pounds after a grueling two-hour fight. Speightstown's proximity to the deep Atlantic dropoff makes it ideal for targeting swordfish.

Mahi and wahoo combo trip was incredible

Trolled the west coast off Speightstown hitting the FADs and weed lines. The mahi were schooled up thick around a big floating log and we caught a dozen in an hour. Then high-speed trolled for wahoo and landed three nice ones. The charter out of Speightstown was professional and the fishing was outstanding.

Reef fishing the west coast was phenomenal

Fished the beautiful reef system along Speightstown's calm west coast and the fishing was incredible. Yellowtail snapper were biting on every drop, and we pulled up several nice red hind and a beautiful coney. The west coast of Barbados has calm seas almost year-round, making it perfect for reef fishing even when the Atlantic side is rough.
