Read MoreFished the bayous around Bayou La Batre at first light and the redfish were blowing up topwater plugs in the marsh. Caught limits of slot reds before the sun was fully up. The marsh system here is a hidden treasure for inshore anglers.
Ran out into the Mississippi Sound from Bayou La Batre and set up over the oyster beds. The speckled trout were feeding aggressively under popping corks. We boxed our limit by mid-morning and released plenty more. This area does not get enough credit.
Worked the creek mouths and channel edges in the bayous south of town. The flounder were laid up thick on the mud bottoms. Caught our limit on live mud minnows and had a fantastic fish fry that night. Bayou La Batre is an underrated gem.
Fished the dock pilings and bridge structures around Bayou La Batre and caught sheepshead and black drum all morning. The drum were big, several over 20 pounds. Using fresh shrimp kept us busy all day. A perfect winter fishing destination.
Took the boat deep into the marsh around Bayou La Batre and the redfish were everywhere. Tailing in the shallows, pushing wakes along the grass edges. We sight-cast to over 30 fish and landed about half of them. This is real, authentic Gulf Coast marsh fishing.
Set up in the Mississippi Sound near the oyster reefs off Bayou La Batre and the croaker and speckled trout were schooled up together. The kids on the boat caught fish all day on live shrimp. Perfect spot for a family-friendly fishing adventure.
