Read MorePoled through the pluff mud marshes at dawn and found schools of red drum tailing on the flats. Threw live shrimp under a popping cork and it was nonstop hookups. We landed 10 gorgeous slot reds in some of the most beautiful marsh scenery on the Carolina coast.
Worked live finger mullet along the creek edges and oyster bars in Murrells Inlet and the flounder were piled up on every transition. Landed eight flatfish with the biggest going over five pounds. These tidal creeks produce some of the best flounder fishing in South Carolina.
Drifted live shrimp through the deeper holes in the Murrells Inlet marsh system and the speckled trout were chewing hard. Every drift produced multiple hookups and we boated over 20 specks. The creek system here is an absolute maze of fish-holding structure.
Anchored up on the nearshore reefs just outside Murrells Inlet and dropped live bait to the bottom. The black sea bass and flounder were biting nonstop, and we picked up a beautiful king mackerel that smoked our bait on the way down. What a mixed bag.
Hit the marsh flats at first light and watched red drum crashing bait pods against the oyster bars. Cast a gold spoon into the mayhem and it was fish-on immediately. Landed six bull reds over 30 inches — the kind of morning that keeps you coming back to Murrells Inlet.
Anchored near the Murrells Inlet jetties with live eels and sight-casted to cobia cruising through on the incoming tide. Hooked four cobia and landed three beautiful fish between 30 and 45 pounds. The inlet mouth is a highway for migratory species in the spring.
