Book charters 2-3 weeks ahead during peak cruise season (November-April). The cruise terminal is at the Esplanade in St. George's harbor — charter pickups are a short walk or water taxi ride. Half-day trips are ideal for cruise visitors. Full-day trips target the deep banks south and west of Grenada for marlin and tuna.

Grand Mal Bay

Shore Fishing

Grand Mal Bay north of St. George's offers a rocky shoreline with deep water close in. Crevalle jacks and barracuda hunt along the reef edge, and yellowtail snapper hold near the rocky points. Less crowded than beaches closer to town.

The Carenage Waterfront

St. George's picturesque inner harbor, the Carenage, has accessible waterfront for shore anglers. Mangrove snapper and grunts hold along the stone walls, and jacks cruise the harbor at dawn. A convenient spot for cruise visitors.

The rocky headland below Fort George drops steeply into the harbor channel. Strong currents carry baitfish past the point, attracting jacks, barracuda, and occasionally kingfish. Cast heavy jigs or poppers from the rocks.

Lagoon Road Mangroves

Shore Fishing

The lagoon area east of the Carenage has mangrove-lined shoreline where snook and juvenile tarpon feed at dawn and dusk. Fish the mangrove edges with live bait or soft plastic lures on light tackle.

Tactics

St. George's harbor and surrounding coastline offer varied shore fishing opportunities within walking distance of the cruise terminal. The Carenage is easiest to access, but Grand Mal Bay produces bigger fish. Use 10-20 lb spinning gear for general shore fishing, heavier gear (20-30 lb) for the rocky points. The mangrove lagoon offers unique light-tackle action.

Regulations

Grenada does not currently require a recreational fishing license for shore fishing. Spearfishing while scuba diving is prohibited. Lobster has a closed season. Check with the Grenada Fisheries Division for current regulations.

Marlin fishing out of the Carenage was epic

Departed the picturesque Carenage harbor in St. George's and trolled south into the deep Caribbean waters. Hooked a massive blue marlin that jumped 12 times before we got a clean release. The fish was easily over 400 pounds. Grenada's steep dropoffs put you in big marlin territory within minutes of leaving the harbor.

Booked during our Carnival cruise stop in Grenada

We had just one day in Grenada on our Carnival cruise and booked a half-day fishing charter right from the cruise terminal in St. George's. The captain put us on yellowfin tuna within 30 minutes. We caught three yellowfin and two mahi before heading back with plenty of time. Best cruise port excursion we've ever done.

Shore fishing from Grand Mal Bay was fantastic

Cast from the rocks at Grand Mal Bay just north of St. George's and had nonstop action on jacks and snapper. The horse-eye jacks were crushing topwater plugs in the early morning and I picked up some nice yellowtail snapper on cut bait later in the morning. The Spice Island has phenomenal shore fishing.
