Blue marlin in the offshore canyons
Made the run from Morehead City to the offshore canyons and the warm water was loaded with baitfish. Raised a beautiful blue marlin on a skirted ballyhoo spread and released her after a 45-minute fight. The Crystal Coast offshore fishing rivals anywhere in the Carolinas.

Mahi were piled up on the temperature break
Found a perfect temperature break about 40 miles out of Morehead City and the mahi were stacked underneath floating grass. Threw small jigs on spinning gear and it was a fish every cast. We kept our limits of gorgeous bulls and cows — the cooler was overflowing.

Redfish tailing in Bogue Sound
Poled the shallow flats of Bogue Sound at dawn and found redfish tailing aggressively over the grass beds. Threw gold spoons and hooked six slot reds on sight-casts. The clear water and shallow grass flats of Bogue Sound make for incredible sight-fishing.

King mackerel tournament-worthy fish
Slow-trolled live menhaden along the nearshore structure off Morehead City and the king mackerel were on fire. Boated eight kings with the biggest going 42 pounds — a true tournament contender. The Crystal Coast king mackerel fishery is legendary for a reason.

Speckled trout loaded in the sound
Drifted live shrimp over the grass beds in Bogue Sound and the speckled trout were feeding hard. Landed 18 trout with several gator specks over 23 inches. Mixed in some nice flounder on the deeper drops. Morehead City has world-class inshore fishing year-round.

Flounder slam on the Bogue Sound flats
Fished live finger mullet along the channel edges of Bogue Sound and the flounder were piled up thick. Landed 10 flatfish with the biggest going over 6 pounds. The sound system here at Morehead City is a flounder paradise from August through October.
