Oistins Bay Breakwater

Pier Fishing

The stone breakwater protecting Oistins fishing harbor creates excellent structure for shore anglers. Jacks and barracuda cruise the outer wall, and snapper hold in the crevices. Fish the incoming tide for the best action.

Miami Beach (Enterprise)

Shore Fishing

The rocky headlands at either end of Miami Beach offer casting access to reef structure. Blue runners and jacks feed aggressively at dawn. The south coast surf pushes baitfish against the rocks, triggering feeding frenzies.

South Point Lighthouse Rocks

Shore Fishing

The southernmost point of Barbados features rocky shoreline dropping into deep Atlantic water. The currents here attract pelagic species close to shore. Heavy jigs cast from the rocks can connect with large barracuda and the occasional wahoo.

Inch Marlow Reef

The shallow reef at Inch Marlow near the airport offers wade-fishing at low tide. Yellowtail snapper and grunts feed around the coral heads, and triggerfish root in the sand flats. Easy access from the road.

Tactics

Oistins' south coast has more surf and current than the west coast — use heavier gear (15-25 lb) and heavier lures. The breakwater is the most accessible spot. Fish the incoming tide when clean water pushes in. The local fishermen at the market can share tips on what's biting. South Point is for experienced rock anglers only — waves can be dangerous.

Regulations

Barbados does not currently require a recreational fishing license for shore fishing. South Point has strong currents — exercise caution. Spearfishing is regulated. Check with the Barbados Fisheries Division for current regulations.

Wahoo heaven off the south coast

Departed Oistins fish market at dawn and trolled the deep water off Barbados' south coast. The wahoo were on a serious feed — we landed six between 30 and 55 pounds in just three hours. The captain had them filleted at the Oistins market and we ate fresh wahoo for dinner at the Friday night fish fry. Incredible.

Yellowfin tuna were busting on the surface

Found a school of yellowfin tuna blitzing baitfish about 8 miles south of Oistins. Cast poppers into the feeding frenzy and it was instant hookups. We landed four yellowfin between 30 and 50 pounds on spinning tackle. Barbados sits right in the path of the Atlantic tuna migration and Oistins is perfectly positioned to fish it.

Shore fishing off the south coast rocks

Fished from the rocky shoreline near Oistins using metal jigs and topwater plugs at dawn. The jacks and barracuda were patrolling the reef edge and smashing anything that moved. I landed three nice horse-eye jacks and a couple of bar jacks. It's amazing how good the shore fishing is in Barbados if you know where to go.
