Book charters 2-4 weeks ahead during peak cruise season (November-April). The Bridgetown cruise terminal is at the Bridgetown Port, about 10 minutes from the Careenage where many charter boats dock. Half-day morning trips are best for cruise visitors — the deep water is only 15-20 minutes from port. Confirm sail-away time and return 2 hours early.

Pier Fishing

The jetty at Carlisle Bay offers casting access near several sunken wrecks that serve as fish magnets. Jacks and barracuda cruise the bay, and snapper hold around the underwater structure. A short walk from the cruise terminal.

Shore Fishing

This calm leeward beach just north of Bridgetown offers easy shore casting. Blue runners school along the beach in the morning, and jacks move through chasing baitfish. The rocky north end holds snapper.

Pier Fishing

The historic inner harbor of Bridgetown has stone walls where snapper and grunts congregate. Cast light jigs or drop cut bait along the seawall for steady action on light tackle. Best fished in the evening.

Needham's Point

Shore Fishing

The rocky point south of Carlisle Bay extends into deeper water and attracts roaming predators. Cast metal jigs from the rocks for barracuda and jacks. The reef off the point holds yellowtail snapper.

Tactics

Bridgetown's west coast is calm and sheltered, making shore fishing accessible year-round. The sunken wrecks in Carlisle Bay concentrate fish — cast toward the wreck markers. Cut flying fish is the local bait of choice and outfishes everything else. Use 10-20 lb spinning gear. Fish early morning or late afternoon for the best action.

Regulations

Barbados does not currently require a recreational fishing license for shore fishing. Spearfishing is prohibited in Carlisle Bay Marine Park. Turtle nesting beaches have seasonal restrictions. Check with the Barbados Fisheries Division for current regulations.

Booked during our Princess cruise stop in Bridgetown

Our Princess Cruises ship docked right in Bridgetown and we walked to a charter boat in the Careenage. The captain had us hooked up on mahi mahi within 45 minutes. We caught four mahi, a wahoo, and a nice blackfin tuna before heading back to the ship. Barbados offshore fishing is world-class and super accessible from the cruise port.

Blue marlin released off the west coast

Trolled the deep water off Barbados' west coast and hooked a gorgeous blue marlin that lit up electric blue. After a 75-minute battle we got a clean release on a fish the captain estimated at 350 pounds. The drop-off is so close to shore in Barbados that you can be in marlin territory within 20 minutes of leaving Bridgetown.

Flying fish capital of the world didn't disappoint

Fished the nearshore reefs off Bridgetown and caught a fantastic variety of tropical species. Yellowtail snapper, cero mackerel, and triggerfish were all biting. The captain even netted some of Barbados' famous flying fish for us to try. The reef fishing here is colorful, fun, and great for families.
