Read MoreThe cobia were pouring through the passes around Grand Isle in late March. We sight-cast to over a dozen fish and boated four nice ones, the largest pushing 60 pounds. This barrier island is perfectly positioned for the spring cobia run.
Worked the shorelines of Caminada Bay just north of Grand Isle and caught redfish and speckled trout all morning. The reds were up shallow tailing in the grass and the trout were staging on the points. Classic Louisiana inshore fishing at its best.
Ran south out of Grand Isle to the offshore platforms and the yellowfin tuna and mangrove snapper were biting hard. We chunked for tuna and dropped jigs for snapper, coming back with a loaded cooler. Short run to great offshore fishing.
Fished the Grand Isle jetties on the incoming tide and the speckled trout were absolutely hammering live shrimp. Caught fish in the 2 to 4 pound range all day. The jetties here are one of the most productive trout spots in all of Louisiana.
Hit the rigs and reefs just south of Grand Isle during snapper season. Limited out on red snapper fast and then bottom fished for triggerfish and amberjack. Grand Isle gives you easy access to some of the best reef fishing in the northern Gulf.
Fished the channels and passes around Grand Isle on a falling tide and the flounder were stacked up on the sandy bottoms. Caught them on bucktail jigs tipped with shrimp. We had our limit in about three hours. Outstanding flatfish action.
