Steinhatchee scalloping was incredible
The scallops were thick in the grass beds off Steinhatchee this season. We limited out for six people in about two hours in crystal-clear water. Then ran to the nearshore rocks and caught grouper for dinner. Best summer combo trip on the Nature Coast.

Redfish were stacked on the oyster bars
Found pods of redfish feeding on the oyster bars at the mouth of the Steinhatchee River during a falling tide. Threw weedless gold spoons and hooked up on almost every cast. Landed 12 reds — most of them solid slot fish around 26 inches.

Grouper limits on the rock piles
Fished the nearshore rock piles in 18 to 25 feet of water off Steinhatchee and the gag grouper were absolutely on the chew. Limited out on big gags using live pinfish bounced along the bottom. This area has some of the best shallow grouper fishing in the state.

Speckled trout bonanza on the flats
Drifted the grass flats off Steinhatchee with popping corks and live shrimp and it was a trout-catching clinic. Landed 30-plus speckled trout including five gator trout over 22 inches. The Big Bend trout fishing is world-class and mostly uncrowded.

Tarpon showed up in force
Found tarpon rolling in the deep holes along the Steinhatchee River channel and free-lined live mullet to them. Jumped four tarpon and landed a beautiful 90-pounder after a 45-minute fight. Steinhatchee tarpon fishing is a well-kept secret.

Amazing mixed bag in the river
Anchored at the river bends and fished live shrimp on the bottom in the Steinhatchee River. Caught a beautiful mixed bag of redfish, sheepshead, black drum, and mangrove snapper. Steinhatchee is a true hidden gem of Florida fishing.
