Trophy Kings Off Sitka Sound

Sitka Sound's king salmon run was in full force and we mooched herring along the outside edge in 60 feet. Hooked into a 55-pound trophy king that screamed 300 yards of line before we gained an inch. Three more kings to 40 pounds followed — Sitka is the undisputed king salmon capital of Alaska.

Halibut and Rockfish Combo Offshore

Ran to the outside grounds and found halibut thick in 250 feet on a sandy shelf. Limited out on halibut to 65 pounds then moved shallow for yelloweye and quillback rockfish. The diversity of Sitka's offshore waters is incredible — world-class halibut and rockfish within a short run of the harbor.

Coho Salmon Going Crazy at the Hatchery

Fished the waters near the Sitka hatchery and the coho were so thick you could almost walk across their backs. Trolled small hoochies and had nonstop hookups — limits of bright silvers from 8 to 14 pounds. Added a couple lingcod on the way home at a rock pile in 100 feet.
