Golden Isles redfish were tailing everywhere
Poled the shallow flats around the Golden Isles and found redfish tailing over the oyster beds in crystal-clear water. Sight-casted gold spoons and hooked nine beautiful slot reds. The Golden Isles are a sight-fishing paradise and St. Simons is the perfect base to explore them.

St. Simons Sound flounder were thick
Drifted live mud minnows through the channels of St. Simons Sound and the flounder were stacked on every ledge and transition. Landed 10 beautiful flatfish with the biggest going over 5 pounds. The sound provides perfect flounder habitat with strong current and sandy bottom.

Worked topwater plugs over the grass flats in St. Simons Sound at first light and the speckled trout were blowing up on every cast. Landed 17 solid trout with several over 21 inches. The sound-side flats around St. Simons produce incredible topwater trout action.

Tarpon rolling in the Golden Isles
Found tarpon rolling in the deeper channels near St. Simons Island and free-lined live mullet into the school. Hooked four tarpon and landed two — one estimated at over 100 pounds. The Golden Isles tarpon fishery is one of the best in Georgia and runs strong all summer.

Sheepshead loaded on the pier pilings
Fished fiddler crabs around the pier pilings and dock structure at St. Simons and the sheepshead were biting aggressively. Landed 15 fat sheepies between 3 and 5 pounds. Winter sheepshead fishing around the Golden Isles is some of the best in the Southeast.

Black drum on the oyster bars at low tide
Fished cut blue crab on the exposed oyster bars near St. Simons at low tide and the black drum were feeding aggressively. Landed five black drum between 20 and 35 pounds — these powerful fish fight incredibly hard in shallow water. St. Simons is a premier black drum destination.
