Scotts Head is about 30 minutes south of Roseau at Dominica's southern tip. From DCF airport, it's about 1.5 hours. Canefield Airport (DOM) is closer at about 40 minutes. This is a small fishing village — arrange charters through local fishermen or your accommodation. Book a few days ahead. Scotts Head is where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic, creating unique fishing conditions.

Scotts Head Pinnacle

Shore Fishing

The dramatic volcanic headland where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic is arguably the best shore fishing spot in the eastern Caribbean. Deep water right at your feet means pelagic species like kingfish and even wahoo pass within casting range. Heavy jigs and poppers produce explosive strikes.

The black-sand beach inside Soufrière Bay, protected from the Atlantic swells, offers calmer fishing than the headland. Jacks and barracuda cruise the bay, and snapper hold around the volcanic rock formations along the shoreline.

Shore Fishing

The rocky Atlantic-facing shoreline east of the headland gets pounded by swells but produces big fish. Cast heavy tackle between sets for powerful jacks and cubera snapper that prowl the turbulent water. Only fish here in calm conditions.

Tactics

Scotts Head is world-class shore fishing by Caribbean standards. The volcanic headland drops into water over 300 feet deep within a stone's throw of shore, bringing offshore species within casting range. Use heavy spinning gear (30-50 lb) on the headland — the fish here are powerful and the terrain is unforgiving. Fish the Caribbean side for calmer conditions, the Atlantic side only when swells are small. Dawn is prime time.

Regulations

Scotts Head is within the Soufrière-Scotts Head Marine Reserve (SSMR). Fishing from shore with rod and reel is generally permitted, but check with local authorities for current restrictions. Spearfishing is prohibited within the reserve. Respect the marine reserve boundaries.

Where the Caribbean meets the Atlantic

Fished the unique waters off Scotts Head where the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean collide. The currents here create an incredible bait concentration. We trolled the rip and caught four wahoo and three mahi in just a few hours. Scotts Head is one of the most unique and productive fishing spots in the entire Caribbean.

Reef fishing the Soufriere Scott's Head Marine Reserve

Fished the edges of the marine reserve where the reef drops into deep water and the fish were stacked up thick. We caught yellowtail snapper, lane snapper, and beautiful ocean triggerfish on light tackle. The volcanic reef formations here are unlike anything I've seen. Scotts Head is a hidden gem for reef fishing.

Shore casting at Scotts Head point produced big jacks

Cast from the dramatic rocky headland at Scotts Head point where the water drops to hundreds of feet just yards from shore. The almaco jacks and horse-eye jacks were patrolling the dropoff and crushing metal jigs. Landed a 25-pound almaco jack that nearly spooled me. This is the most dramatic shore fishing spot I've ever fished.
