Lahaina is Maui's historic whaling town turned premier fishing destination, with Lahaina Harbor providing access to some of Hawaii's most productive big game waters. The deep Auau Channel between Maui and Lanai concentrates blue marlin, striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi mahi, and ono. Striped Marlin Putting on a Show
The Auau Channel between Maui and Lanai was loaded with striped marlin today. Trolled skirted ballyhoo and had three stripes up in the spread by noon — all acrobatic fish in the 120 to 160 pound range. Tagged and released all three. Lahaina's channel fishing for stripes is world-renowned for good reason.

Blue Marlin Dream Fish Off Maui
A trophy blue marlin ate the long rigger lure 3 miles off Lahaina and the fight was on. The fish was estimated at over 700 pounds and fought for 2.5 hours with breathtaking jumps against the backdrop of the West Maui Mountains. Tagged and released in perfect condition — the fish of a lifetime.

Mahi Mahi and Ono Filling the Box
Ran to the leeward side of Lanai and found mahi mahi schooled under a floating log. They ate everything — lures, bait, even bare hooks with skirts. Ten mahi to 28 pounds plus two ono on the high-speed trolling pass. The Lahaina-Lanai run is always productive for pelagics.
