Read MorePoled the shallow flats near the Crystal River power plant outflow and found redfish feeding aggressively in the warm water. Threw crab-pattern flies on an 8-weight and hooked six beautiful reds. The water clarity was incredible — you could see every fish.
Fished the nearshore rock piles and limestone ledges off Crystal River and the gag grouper were aggressively hitting live pinfish. Boxed four beautiful gags between 24 and 28 inches. The Nature Coast grouper fishing is some of the best shallow-water grouper action in Florida.
Found tarpon rolling in the channels of Crystal River during the early morning and free-lined live crabs to them. Hooked four tarpon and landed two beautiful fish around 80 pounds. There is nothing like a silver king on light tackle in shallow water.
Fished the bridges and rock piles in Kings Bay using fiddler crabs and the sheepshead were stacked up thick during the spawn. Limited out on beautiful 3- to 5-pound sheepshead in no time. These are one of the best-eating fish in the Gulf.
Worked topwater plugs over the grass flats at first light near Ozello and the speckled trout were blowing up on every cast. Landed 18 trout with several gator trout over 24 inches. Crystal River topwater trout fishing in the fall is absolutely addicting.
Took the family scalloping in the shallow grass beds near Crystal River and the scallops were thick this year. We filled our limit bags in a couple hours and then spent the afternoon catching trout on the flats. A perfect Nature Coast summer day.
