Read MoreLaunched out of Delacroix and was in the marsh catching redfish within 30 minutes of leaving the dock. The reds were schooled up in the ponds and we had an incredible day. Hard to believe fishing this good is right outside New Orleans.
Set up on the bridges and reefs of Lake Pontchartrain and the speckled trout were on a feeding frenzy. Caught our limit using live shrimp under corks before the wind picked up. The lake produces big trout every spring and this trip proved it.
Fished the marsh out of Hopedale, just east of New Orleans, and caught over 50 redfish. The fish were tailing in the ponds and crushing topwater lures. Combined with some nice speckled trout on the points, it was a day for the record books.
Fished the drains and cuts in the Bienvenue Basin and found redfish on every shoreline. Cast soft plastics tight to the grass and had hookups constantly. New Orleans has some of the most accessible marsh fishing anywhere on the Gulf Coast.
Anchored near the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway pilings and caught speckled trout and sheepshead nonstop. The trout were hitting soft plastics and the sheepshead were on fiddler crabs. Perfect half-day trip when you want world-class fishing close to the city.
Started the day catching bass in the city lagoons then drove out to the Biloxi Marsh for afternoon redfish. We caught a mixed bag of reds and trout in the marsh grass. Where else can you fish freshwater and saltwater in the same day without leaving the metro area?
