South Padre Island is the southernmost barrier island on the Texas coast, bordered by the legendary Laguna Madre and the warm, fish-rich waters of the lower Gulf of Mexico. The Laguna Madre is one of only a handful of hypersaline lagoons in the world, and its crystal-clear, shallow waters support exceptional sight-fishing for speckled trout, redfish, flounder, and black drum. The grass flats and sand pockets of the lower Laguna are a wade-fishing paradise.
Offshore, the deep waters of the Gulf produce red snapper, grouper, amberjack, kingfish, mahi mahi, and yellowfin tuna over natural reefs and oil platforms. The Brazos Santiago Pass jetties provide excellent shore-based and boat fishing for tarpon, snook, and bull redfish during the warmer months. South Padre Island's tropical atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and access to both world-class bay fishing and productive offshore grounds make it a premier Texas coastal fishing destination.

Laguna Madre Flats Were Loaded
Waded the flats of the Laguna Madre on the bay side of South Padre Island and caught redfish in gin-clear water all morning. Sight-cast with gold spoons and had over 20 hookups. The combination of clear water and healthy fish makes this one of the best flats fisheries in the country.

Offshore South Padre Was Outstanding
Ran south out of the Brazos Santiago Pass and hit the offshore lumps. The red snapper were aggressive and we limited out quickly. Then trolled for king mackerel on the way back and boated three nice ones. South Padre Island offshore fishing is top-notch.

Speckled Trout Were Feeding in the Bay
Drifted the grass beds on the Laguna Madre side of South Padre and the speckled trout were eating topwater plugs aggressively. Caught our limit of solid trout by 10 AM. The bay fishing here is every bit as good as the offshore action.

Snook Fishing at the Jetties Was Awesome
Fished the Brazos Santiago jetties at dawn and hooked into two nice snook on live mullet. Also caught redfish and a hefty mangrove snapper on the rocks. South Padre is one of the few spots in Texas where you can realistically target snook.

Deep Sea Trip Was a Bucket List Experience
Headed far offshore from South Padre Island into the deep blue water. Caught yellowfin tuna on the troll and then dropped deep for grouper on the bottom. The deep sea fishing out of South Padre rivals anywhere in the western Gulf.

Tarpon Were Rolling in the Pass
Hit the Brazos Santiago Pass early and found tarpon rolling on the surface. Made long casts with live bait and hooked a monster that jumped six times before we got it boat-side. The tarpon fishery at South Padre is a world-class sight that more anglers need to experience.
