Masonboro Inlet redfish were stacked up
Fished the flats and oyster bars around Masonboro Inlet and the redfish were schooled up in the shallows. Threw gold spoons on light tackle and hooked up cast after cast. Landed 10 slot reds between 22 and 28 inches. Masonboro Inlet is a redfish factory in the fall.

Flounder doormat day at Masonboro
Drifted live mud minnows through the channels near Masonboro Inlet and the flounder were ambushing bait on every depth change. Landed nine gorgeous flatfish with the biggest going 6 pounds — a true doormat. Wrightsville Beach produces some of the biggest flounder on the Cape Fear coast.

King mackerel running the beach
Watched kings busting bait just off the Wrightsville Beach shoreline and set up a slow-troll pattern with live menhaden. Boated five king mackerel with the biggest going 38 pounds. When the kings are running the beach at Wrightsville, you don't need to go far to find world-class fishing.

Speckled trout topwater blowups all morning
Hit the grass flats behind Wrightsville Beach at dawn with topwater plugs and the speckled trout were blowing up in the slick-calm water. Landed 15 trout with four gator specks over 22 inches. The ICW flats behind Wrightsville Beach are a trout angler's paradise.

Mahi were thick on the offshore structure
Ran offshore from Masonboro Inlet and found mahi schooled on every piece of floating debris and weed line we came across. Cast light spinning tackle and caught over 25 mahi — the action was nonstop. Wrightsville Beach offers quick offshore access to the Gulf Stream edge.

Grouper crushing live bait on the reefs
Dropped live pinfish on the nearshore live-bottom reefs off Wrightsville Beach and the grouper were waiting. Boated three gag grouper and two nice black sea bass. The reef structure within 15 miles of Masonboro Inlet holds incredible bottom fish all summer long.
