Read MoreFished the oyster bars and grass shorelines along the Matanzas River and the redfish were feeding aggressively on the falling tide. Threw Z-Man soft plastics and caught 14 reds with most in the slot. St. Augustine inshore is consistently excellent.
Went out at night gigging flounder in the tidal creeks behind St. Augustine Beach. The flatfish were stacked on the sandy bottom and we gigged our limit in a couple hours. St. Augustine flounder gigging is a unique and fun tradition.
Ran about 25 miles out of St. Augustine Inlet to some natural bottom and the red snapper were incredible. Limits came quickly with fish averaging 8 to 12 pounds. Also caught some nice triggerfish and a big amberjack. St. Augustine offshore is seriously underrated.
Hit the grass flats near Vilano Beach at first light and the speckled trout were exploding on topwater plugs. Landed 18 trout including four gator trout over 23 inches. St. Augustine flats fishing during the cooler months is absolutely fantastic.
Trolled live menhaden along the beach and nearshore reefs off St. Augustine and the king mackerel were on a serious feed. Boated six kings and also picked up some nice Spanish mackerel. Spring kingfish action off St. Augustine is excellent.
Fished the historic seawall and Bridge of Lions in downtown St. Augustine with fiddler crabs and the sheepshead were everywhere. Limited out on beautiful fat sheepshead and caught some nice black drum as a bonus. Fishing with the old city as your backdrop is special.
