Mosquito Lagoon redfish were tailing everywhere
Poled the shallow flats of Mosquito Lagoon at sunrise and the redfish were tailing on the grass beds as far as you could see. Sight-casted with gold spoons and DOA shrimp and caught 12 gorgeous reds. Mosquito Lagoon is the sight-fishing capital of Florida.

Trout were stacked in the Lagoon
Drifted soft plastics through the deeper potholes in Mosquito Lagoon and the speckled trout were eating everything. Caught over 20 trout including several gator trout over 24 inches. New Smyrna Beach lagoon fishing is world-class and relatively uncrowded.

Snook at Ponce Inlet were going off
Fished the rocks and jetty at Ponce Inlet on an outgoing tide and the snook were lined up in the current. Threw live mullet and caught eight snook with three over 30 inches. Ponce Inlet is one of the best snook spots on the entire east coast of Florida.

Black drum schooled up on the flats
Found large schools of black drum on the shallow sand flats of Mosquito Lagoon during their winter spawn. Sight-casted live crabs and fought these powerful fish on light spinning tackle. Landed seven drum between 15 and 30 pounds.

Flounder on the bottom at the inlet
Drifted live finger mullet along the sandy bottom near Ponce Inlet and the flounder were eating. Caught eight flatfish including a couple of doormats over 22 inches. Fall flounder fishing at New Smyrna is a fantastic fishery.

Nearshore reefs produced a big mixed bag
Fished the nearshore reefs and artificial structure about five miles off New Smyrna Beach and caught a great mixed bag. Red snapper, triggerfish, and amberjack all came to the boat. The nearshore fishing off New Smyrna is surprisingly productive.
